The questions people ask first, with short answers.
These are the questions people ask most, in the order they usually come up: the account, playing, building, sharing and the app itself. If yours is not here, ask on Discord and we will answer it there and add it here.
Check your spam folder first, and then any other folder your mail app sorts into, because Gmail's Promotions and Updates tabs catch these. If it is not there either, go back to the app and tap the button to resend it. See more on the page Get the app.
On the sign-in screen, Forgot password? sends a reset link to your email, and once you follow it and choose a new password you can sign in again. This is only for accounts made with an email address, because Apple and Google accounts reset their password with Apple or Google.
They are deleted with it. Delete account in Settings removes your account and everything you made: your worlds, scenarios, characters, places and stories.
Deleting your account cannot be undone, so if you only want a break, log out instead.
No. Discover has the worlds and scenarios our team made, and you can start playing in one right away. See more on the page Your first story.
Yes. Play has two limits, one over five hours and one over a week. Each one starts counting from your first turn and resets on its own when its time is up. The app does not show how much you have used yet, so when you reach a limit, your next turn fails with an error until that limit resets. Showing your usage and when each limit resets is planned Coming soon. Pro, with much higher play limits and access to better models, cannot be bought yet Coming soon.
A protagonist is a character the scenario's author marked as playable, and when you press Play you pick one of them and it becomes your persona, the character you play, for the whole story. A persona of your own, a character you wrote yourself, is planned but not in the app yet Coming soon. See more on the page Personas.
Not yet. Today every story starts as one of the scenario's protagonists. A persona of your own, with a name and a face, is next on the roadmap Coming soon. See more on the page What's live now.
No. Your protagonist or persona is fixed when the story starts. Start the scenario again to play it as someone else, and your first story stays where it is.
Yes, and each time is a separate story with its own copy of the world, so the two know nothing about each other, even if you play the same protagonist.
No. A story is you and the AI, which plays the narrator and every other character, and there is no way to invite another player into it.
Yes, on their own and after every message, so you can close the app mid-scene and find the story under Stories on any device you sign in on.
No, the app has no way to delete a story. It stays under Stories, and if a story went wrong, you can rewind it to any earlier point instead. See more on the page Steering the story.
Rewind to before it went wrong and take the turn again, or edit the reply. See more on the page How memory works, which says what a story remembers and how far back.
The app and the worlds our team made are in English, and English is what we test. Nothing stops you from writing your own world and its definitions in another language and playing it that way, and the AI will usually follow the language it is written in, but we cannot promise it works as well as English does yet.
No, they are AI, and what they say is fiction, not fact or advice.
Complete means that the world's own fields are filled in, while playable means that someone could actually start a story in it, which needs a finished scenario using finished characters. See more on the page Path to playable.
The scenario depends on that character, so if an edit left them unfinished, everything that depends on them stops being playable until you finish them again.
No. A story takes its own copy of the world when it starts and runs on that, so later edits do not reach stories already in progress, and they do not fix them either. See more on the page Stories.
No. Places are optional and never block a world from being playable; they only make scenes better.
A world's definition can be 2048 characters, and a character's or a place's 1024. The counter under the field says how much room is left, and the team's definitions use most of it. See more on the page Building a world.
Yes, in descriptions, prologues, opening messages and story messages, written in Markdown. See more on the page Markdown.
Any picture you have will do, and the app shrinks it to 1536 pixels on its longer side. Every picture is checked before it is saved, and one that is explicit or unsafe is refused. Use pictures you have the right to use.
Everything you create is private for now, and there is no way to make it public. Publishing is planned Coming soon. See more on the page Private and public.
Publishing is on the roadmap, after stories that grow as you play and a persona of your own. We cannot say exactly when it will be in the app, but we are working on it, and it will be announced on Discord first. See more on the page What's live now.
No, Narratica is an app for iPhone, iPad and Android, and a web version is not planned right now.
It is at the bottom of Settings (the gear on your Profile), in the line Narratica v… · Early Access, and it is the first thing to tell us when you report a bug.
On Discord, or by email to hello@narratica.ai. Say what you did, what you expected and what happened instead, and which version of the app you have. See more on the page Contact.
